Ongoing shortening of product life cycles and growing environmental requirements are increasing the innovation pressure among OEMs and suppliers. Often this relates to the use of new materials or the substitution of conventional materials. Fast and comprehensive access to the latest material data is therefore essential.
When creating a new product, producers and suppliers have to overcome a wide range of hurdles: On the one hand, digital engineering requires comprehensive test data for every potential material and technology, whilst at the same time, guidelines, regulations and standards, such as REACH, RoHS and IMDS, influence the selection and substitution of materials. In addition, the material information is highly relevant for production and purchasing processes. On the other hand, an even higher degree of networking and intensive data exchange between the manufacturer and the supplier is being pursued during the development phase. These requirements can only be met with prompt access to comprehensive and up-to-date material information.
With the material data management system WIAM® and its modules, WIAM GmbH provides information on more than 6,000 metallic materials and about 180,000 modifications to companies. In addition, data on the deformation behaviour of materials, information on the vibration resistance behaviour, and data on non- and short-fibre and long-fibre reinforced plastics is additionally available. If required, customised information systems can also be developed and implemented.
