Material selection does not always have something to do with technical requirements, but also with eventual environmental and health hazards or with sustainability of raw materials. Regulation within this field is typically nationally or internationally handled however, internal company-specific or customer specifications can also influence the material choice. Well-known regulations are the RoHS, Restriction of Hazardous Substances and REACH, Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals, but manifold regional regulations such as Proposition 65 in California also have to be taken into account when importing or producing products and goods.
